Three world religions, one saint. The Christian Mother of God is worshipped by Muslims as the Mother of the Prophet Jesus, and she is venerated by the Jews as well. Alba Maryam: Mary comes to life in the music of different cultures taking the form of hymn-like sounds and transcendental harmonies. The historically informed performance ensemble Musica Antiqua Latina bring along Yasemin Sannino, the Turkish singer/actress who lives in Italy, and the Tunisian oud player/singer Ziad Trabalsi. Together, they will celebrate Marian songs and sacred music from occidental and oriental cultures in Innsbruck Cathedral under the Madonna of Mercy painting by Lucas Cranach. Yasemin Sannino became known all over the world as the Muslim voice on the “Alma Mater” CD, which was released under the auspices of the now emeritus Pope Benedict XVI. Like her fellow musicians, the jazz vocalist does not feel any confrontation between the cultures but rather sees many connections and similarities.
