About youngbaroque - Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik

International Youth Baroque Orchestra Festival

The International Youth Baroque Orchestra Festival ‘youngbaroque’ regularly invites young musicians from all over Europe to make music together and network as part of the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik. In ensemble rehearsals, participants gain new experiences, make valuable contacts and experience the unifying joy of music first-hand. Past editions have been under the musical direction of early music experts such as Lars Ulrich Mortensen, Eduardo Egüez and Gerd Amelung; in 2026, Jörg Halubek, an internationally renowned conductor, organist and harpsichordist, will take over. A special highlight is the closing matinee, where the young musicians perform together with the participants of Anna Bonitatibus' masterclass.

With its rich tradition and international reputation as a centre for early music, Innsbruck offers the ideal setting for ‘youngbaroque’. In addition to making music together, the young musicians also benefit from encounters with renowned artists from the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik and can watch them at rehearsals.

The project is aimed at early music ensembles consisting of young talents who are not (yet) studying music at a university. An important part of the project is historical performance practice, so ensembles should be familiar with this topic and willing to develop their playing accordingly. During the rehearsal phase, musicians will be grouped into new ensembles according to their level of performance and knowledge of historical performance practice.
