In 2016 she won a special prize at the Cesti Competition of the Innsbruck Festival and five years later Lea Desandre is a rising star of international opera. After her highly acclaimed performances at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, including a brilliant Vivaldi programme, the Italian/French singer with her beguiling mezzo and the Jupiter ensemble led by conductor and lutenist Thomas Dunford, are this time following in the footsteps of Amazons of Italian/French Baroque opera. Strong women with powerful music, queens like Antiope and Hippolyte, androgynous beings and women who are warlike when it comes to their passions and suffering when in love. Many of the arias from operas are rediscoveries and are resounding for the first time in centuries.
