Alessandro De Marchi adds two extremely dramatic chapters to his narrative of the Baroque oratorio from its Roman beginnings to the era of High Baroque: in addition to this year's opera, he retrieves Bernardo Pasquini's oratorio “Caino e Abele” (“Cain and Abel”) from the archive of oblivion, enlivening a work that leads from spiritual concertos and dialogues to operatic elements in a way that is typical of how oratorios were developed at that time. De Marchi also brings the forefather of oratorio, the Roman composer Carissimi, back into the game in this concert, with “Judicium Salomonis” (“The Judgement of Solomon”) sung by his student Marc-Antoine Charpentier.
