Further information

Jeffrey Francis, a tenor trained at Washington University in St. Louis, who has spent most of his career at the Berlin State Opera, has played a pivotal role in shaping the recent history of the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music. Over the years, he has impressed audiences with his performances as an opera, concert, and oratorio singer, as well as his work as a vocal coach for the Barockoper:Jung, which was founded in 2011. Following his virtuosic performance of folk ballads and subtle humor at the Festwochen 2021 Open-Mind concert «Grappa, Scotch & Bourbon,» and his recent appearance at a concert in the Hofgarten Pavilion, Alessandro De Marchi is pleased to invite his friend and collaborator back to the stage. This time, the performance will take place at the Nikolauskapelle of Schloss Ambras, where Jeffrey Francis, together with Karl Nyhlin on lute and theorbo, will present a program that bridges the song art of the Italian Renaissance composer John Dowland with the «Canzoni da battello,» the «boat songs» of the Venetian gondoliers.

Join us for an hour of emotionally touching and entertaining music as the artists of our second chapel concert present a musical panorama of Anglo-Italian song from the late 16th to the mid-18th century. We highly recommend bringing sufficient tissues as a souvenir of this delightful experience.
