Introduction 19.00

«Bejun Mehta is currently probably the best countertenor in the world», the «Süddeutsche Zeitung» recently observed, and the «Opera News» magazine agreed in 2018: «Currently perhaps the most sophisticated and musically convincing countertenor.» So nothing has changed regarding the exceptional reputation of the US American singer since his last performance at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music a decade ago, when he sang the role of Cyrus in a staged production of Handel’s «Belshazzar» under the direction of René Jacobs. Handel is once again Bejun Mehta’s musical companion on his return to Innsbruck. He will be accompanied by the La Folia baroque orchestra, which has become one of the most spectacular historically informed orchestras over the past decade.
