Two great early-baroque masters of the lute, Alessandro Piccinini and Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger, and two present-day lute virtuosos, Daniele Caminiti and Mirko Arnone, convene in St Nicholas Chapel. Piccinini and Kapsperger established the lute as a virtuoso solo instrument far beyond its usual function as accompaniment with their compositions and their skill on the instrument. Caminiti and Arnone will draw on the impressive family of lutes, using the profound theorbo and archlute as well as the delicate mandolin and the extremely long-necked colascione, which developed from oriental models, to play original works by baroque masters authentically and in impressive arrangements for two lutes written by themselves.
