Introductory Talk One hour before the concert starts.

He was one of the most influential composers known to the history of European art music: Jean-Baptiste Lully, composer, violinist, guitarist and dancer at the court of the “Sun King” Louis XIV. The admirers of the artist, who was born Giovanni Battista Lulli in Florence in 1632, liked to call themselves “Lullists”. Far from mere imitation, these artists, some of whom were already quite famous, succeeded in enriching the French Baroque style with their own language. They left behind many treasures, many of which can still be discovered today.

This is precisely what the Madrid-based ensemble El Gran Teatro del Mundo has set itself the task of doing, for which it was awarded a Diapason d'Or in 2022. In “The Lullists”, the young Georg Philipp Telemann has his say, mixing Slavic folklore with French court dances, as does Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer, whose C major suite radiates lightness and simplicity in the purest Lully style. Georg Muffat, on the other hand, astounds with the chiaroscuro of emotional intensity and dazzling liveliness.
