“La bella chitarra” (“The beautiful guitar”) ¬ – we all know it and love it, whether as an accompanying or concert instrument. Visitors to our festival are also aware of the baroque guitar with its curved base, inlays, carved rosette and all sorts of other ornaments. When Francesco Romano, lutenist and guitarist from the ensemble Gli Incogniti, speaks of “the beautiful unknown”, and even better makes this instrument produce sound, he is referring to the guitar from the classical and early Romantic era – a time in which the instrument experienced an unprecedented upswing in popularity, artistry and structural advances.
