When the celebrated flamenco singer Rocío Márquez enters into a dialogue with viol player Fahmi Alqhai and his Accademia del Piacere, the result is far from a clash between two different worlds. Early music and flamenco have a lot in common, not least because flamenco developed from the dances and songs imported into Spain by the Gitanos in the baroque period. Old and new sounds blend together on the Landestheater stage not only audibly but visibly as well – in Patricia Guerrero’s dancing. She danced in her mother’s flamenco group as early as at the age of three, and today she is one of the stars of a young, new generation in Spain that speaks the language of flamenco.
