The poet Tommaso Ceva once described the “Accademia degli Arcadia”, a community of intellectuals, as a "dream in the presence of reason". The librettist and poet Benedetto Pamphili held an outstanding position among the Arcadians. In order to transpose his texts, Pamphili secured himself a number of brilliant young minds, including Carlo Francesco Cesarini, who was foregrounded here by Stéphanie Varnerin and the Turin ensemble, L'Astrée. The composer's scorings, which establish a relationship with selected trio sonatas by Arcangelo Corelli and Alessandro Stradella at the concert in the Spanish Hall, give the sun god Helios as well as the abandoned Arianna their voice: a sea of emotions, born of the fantasies of a cardinal.
