Once they gilded the existence of courtly society and the people, today they belong to the Innsbruck summer like a Sunday round on the Nordkette: the historic timpani and trumpet sounds from the Goldenes Dachl. Tyrol's archdukes were very fond of their powerful trumpet consorts, which included up to 30 musicians and played at prestigious occasions, celebrations and public festivities. The tradition of trumpet processions lasted in some regions until the 19th century. Even today there are again groups dedicated to playing this special instrument and during the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music they send their festive sounds through the streets and alleys from the historic center, crowned by the Golden Roof.
