Once upon a time, trumpet sounds adorned the lives of the courtly society and the people. The Tyrolean archdukes also valued the sonorous trumpet consorts, which consisted of up to 30 musicians. They played at representative events, celebrations, and public festivals. The tradition of trumpet consorts lasted in some regions, including Austria and southern Germany, until the end of the 18th century, and in some places even until the 19th century. In Tyrol, even today trumpet consorts play on natural trumpets of earlier times. They are an integral part and indispensable of the program at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music. From the Goldenes Dachl, their festive sounds can be heard through the historic old town of the Alpine metropolis.
