Introductory Talk One hour before the concert starts.

He is considered the undisputed master of the Neapolitan-Roman Baroque oratorio and was also of almost epochal importance in the fields of opera, serenata and (dramatic) cantata: (Pietro) Alessandro (Gaspare) Scarlatti. Born in 1660 in Palermo, Sicily, the highly acclaimed composer died 300 years ago, on October 22, 1725 in Naples.

Ottavio Dantone and his Accademia Bizantina have taken this as an opportunity to continue their series of vocal-instrumental homage music from the Italian-speaking High Baroque period, which began in 2024 with Conti's “Il trionfo della Fama”. The serenata a 2 con violini “Diana ed Endimione” will be performed. Composed in Rome between 1679 and 1685, the work tells the story of the chaste goddess of the hunt, who must fear for her good reputation because of her secret love for the equally beautiful and young shepherd Endimione. Countertenor Paul-Antoine Bénos-Djian takes on the role of Endimione. Diana will be sung by Carlotta Colombo, a finalist in the 2022 Cesti competition.
The program is complemented by comic scenes for tenor and bass from various operas composed for Naples, the Salve Regina a 4 and two concerti grossi by Scarlatti.
