In the second chapel concert of the Festwochen 2025, Kohei Takeoka from Japan takes on the role of the widely traveled composer and keyboard artist Johann Jacob Froberger. The winner of the IV Concorso Internazionale di Clavicembalo della Città di Milano will also play works by the Dutch composer Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, the French composer Louis Couperin and the Hamburg organist Matthias Weckmann. The latter in turn had a deep and lasting friendship with Froberger, the result of a musical competition held in Dresden.

Johann Jacob Froberger came from the family of the Stuttgart Kapellmeister Basilius Froberger and maintained close ties to the court of the Dukes of Württemberg throughout his life. The second fixed point in the organist and harpsichordist's life was the imperial court in Vienna, from where he was sent to study with Girolamo Frescobaldi in Rome in 1637. From 1641 onwards, his name appears on the payroll of the Viennese court with several interruptions, some of which lasted for years, whereby we can assume that the urbane musician, who traveled throughout Europe, also took on diplomatic duties.
