Artist Peter Waldner

Well-known European composers of the late Renaissance and the early baroque periods pay their respects with a bouquet of works for keyboard instruments to Ferdinand II, Archduke of Tyrol, to congratulate him on the 450th anniversary of the commencement of his reign.

That’s the idea behind the concert played by Tyrolean organist and harpsichordist Peter Waldner in the splendidly ornate Silver Chapel, which was built by Court Architect Hans Lucchese and was to serve Ferdinand and both his wives as a burial place. The precious “organo di legno”, the rare wood-pipe organ from the Renaissance housed in the chapel, and a harpsichord will serve Waldner as instruments to illustrate scenes from the everyday life and times of the Archduke in music: hunts, jousts, dances, love, marriage, worship and bidding farewell to earthly life.
