Arrival

Eduardo Egüez and La Chimera, last celebrated by Festwochen audiences in 2020 in “La Pellegrina”, take us on one of their mysterious musical journeys: They follow the shady Count Juan de Tassis y Peralta across Europe. Together with Céline Scheen and her radiant voice, they take us back to the early 17th century with music from Spain, France, Flanders, Italy and England.

Juan de Tassis y Peralta, the second Count of Villamediana, was a brilliant but dissolute aristocrat. He was involved in scandals that drove him into exile several times: legend has it that he set fire to the theater in Aranjuez as the lover of Queen Isabel in order to be able to spend just a moment with her. However, he was also a poet and playwright and wrote such fierce satires against the Madrid court that King Philip IV is said to have ordered his murder in 1622.
