End of concert approx. 21.30 (no intermission)

“Wonder Women” - music by and about women: Tragic and comic stories of heroines, saints, witches, sorceresses and ordinary mortals. Christina Pluhar and L'Arpeggiata interweave the musical threads of wonderful female figures, who are the subject of numerous opera libretti and life stories.

“The project honors the wonderful female composers of the 17th century,” says Christina Pluhar. “At the same time, it celebrates female musicians of all eras who had to hide their talent behind that of their husbands or gave up their careers prematurely. Even today, equality is far from being achieved.” In her concert project, the theorbist and founder of the ensemble L'Arpeggiata focuses on two famous Italian female composers of the 17th century: Barbara Strozzi and Francesca Caccini. But she also includes traditional Latin American and Italian melodies about witches, saints and heroines in her program. Maurizio Cazzati and Andrea Falconieri, two composers who portrayed strong women in their works, are also represented.
