Freiburger Barockorchester
For nearly four decades, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra (FBO) has been one of the most internationally influential ensembles in historically informed performance practice. Led by concertmasters Cecilia Bernardini and Gottfried von der Goltz, the orchestra combines the precision of chamber music, scientific curiosity, and collective responsibility in its lively and virtuosic performances. Founded in 1987 by graduates of the Freiburg University of Music, the ensemble is distinguished by its broad stylistic range, spanning early Baroque to contemporary music, as well as its tireless curiosity for both familiar and lesser-known repertoire.
With around 100 concerts per year, the FBO appears on the world’s most important stages and festivals, including the Salzburg Festival and the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. The ensemble collaborates with leading artists, including Kristian Bezuidenhout as Principal Guest Director, Pablo Heras-Casado, and Sir Simon Rattle. The FBOcurates its own subscription series in Freiburg, Stuttgart, and Berlin, and itsaward-winning discography comprises over 130 recordings.
