Sunhae Im
Sunhae Im was born in Korea and studied with Lokyung Pak at Seoul National University and with Roland Hermann at the Karlsruhe University of Music. In 1997, she was awarded the Grand Prize at the Korean Singing Competition and won prizes at other competitions. She made her concert debut in 1999 under Philippe Herreweghe and her opera debut in 2000 at the Frankfurt Opera. From 2001 to 2003, she was a member of the Hanover State Opera before becoming a freelance artist.
She has performed early music repertoire with conductors such as René Jacobs, Philippe Herreweghe, Fabio Biondi, Ton Koopman, and Diego Fasolis, as well as with ensembles including the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Europa Galante, and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. In addition, she has performed with Manfred Honeck, Iván Fischer, Myung-Whun Chung, and Zubin Mehta at the Verbier Festival, Carnegie Hall, the Philharmonie de Paris, and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and appeared in “Die Schöpfung” and “La Finta Giardiniera” as part of the Teatro alla Scala di Milano’s tour of Shanghai. Her discography includes recordings of operas by Handel and Mozart, Bach’s Passions, and her solo albums “Orfeo[s]” and “Didone Abbandonata.”
