From the world of the Golden Apple - The project begins

Since the start of the year, we have been highlighting a different aspect here each month: the myth, the music, the costumes, the roles, the cast and the direction of ‘Il pomo d'oro’.
It all begins tomorrow: artists from all over the world are coming to Innsbruck to bring everything that has so far been just an idea to life. Here’s what this project means in figures for the coming weeks:
- 526 hours of rehearsals
- 511 pages of score
- 65 scenes
- around 100 individual costumes
- 47 roles
- 20 soloists from 10 countries
- 81 artists on stage and in the orchestra pit
- well over 100 people contributing to the success of each evening’s performance, both on and behind the scenes
On stage, the artistic visions of director Fabio Ceresa, set designer Nikolaus Webern and costume designer Giuseppe Palella will coalesce into a single work. Together with the musical prowess of Ottavio Dantone, the Accademia Bizantina, the soloists, the choir and our dancers, they will create a musical theatre production of the highest calibre.
On three separate occasions, each spanning two evenings in August, you can experience a work that is being restaged with a fresh spirit, yet still upholds the standards of the 17th century. It will be everything at once: splendour, pomp and awe. Above all, however – a magnificent Baroque opera.
Who will win the golden apple?
The question that remains at the end: who will the 21st-century director crown as the fairest of them all? Everyone who secures tickets for 7th + 8th, 11th + 12th or 15th + 16th August will find out who takes home the golden apple.
