Violin-making is a true artisanal craft. Every step is pure handwork. The basic capital of violin maker Claudia Unterkofler is the tonewood. She tests each of them individually, as even two pieces from the same tree can be different and sound very diverse. After selecting the wood, the back and top of a violin are shaped. The sound body is then created by cutting, bending and gluing the individual components. This is followed by the shaping of the neck and scroll. The varnish also plays an important role. The final touches make an instrument ready to play.
In the workshop, you can not only look over Claudia Unterkofler's shoulder, but also lend a hand yourself with planes, chisels and various other tools.
