His flutes, clarinets, basset horns, chalumeaux, oboes and trumpets are played all over the world. Instruments from the Innsbruck workshop of Master Rudolf Tutz are not only expertly handcrafted and inspiring to play, they also convey an unmistakable feeling for the character and nature of each «wind» instrument. Rudolf Tutz was torn from this world in July 2017. He lives on in his instruments.

Musicians who have worked closely with him keep the sound of his instruments alive in the Spanish Hall. Barthold Kuijken, Linde Brunmayr-Tutz and other excellent transverse flute players will play quintets by Boismortier on Tutz flutes as well as high-baroque trio sonatas, accompanied by Lars Ulrik Mortensen on the harpsichord. After a concert a few years ago, Tutz referred to the latter’s harpsichord version of Bach’s famous violin chaconne as «out of this world». The «Windspiele» in the Spanish Hall then continue on chalumeaux, clarinets and basset horns, the latter of which Mozart was very fond. Last but not least, the Ensemble Tutz Frequenz extends the range to include klezmer in the otherwise classical programme. Klezmer, translated from Hebrew, means «vessel of the song». Which is also a wonderful way to describe wind instruments.
