Between the Strings

Inbetween Strings_c_Armin Linke

The ensemble Between the Strings is an artistic manifesto and plea for the emancipation of the historical harp in the European music world.

Inspired by personal advice from Gustav Leonhardt to look for suitable musicians for a project idea and not the other way round, harpist Margret Köll founded the ensemble Between the Strings in 2020, whose flexible line-up is always geared to the requirements of the repertoire and with which she strives to set innovative impulses on an artistic level.

In 2022, the ensemble made its debut at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music with the programme "Concerto delle Donne". In the same year, the "Wondrous Machine" project was launched, which included both concerts and a CD production and was supported by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe as part of the Serious Music Programme. This was followed in 2023 by "Shades of Melancholy" - an interdisciplinary project with music by Purcell and Dowland, a contemporary composition and an interactively choreographed visual narrative. This project sheds light on an era in which melancholy ran through the veins of time. In 2024, the ensemble Between the Strings will once again be a guest at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music with "Wondrous Machine".
