In the past, completing the «Grand Tour» - a cultural journey through continental Europe that ended in Venice - was considered essential for the education of an English gentleman (and later, also a lady). Venice has long been a magnet for travelers and is also a significant center of international music.

The famous ensemble «His Majesty's Sagbutts & Cornetts,» hailing from London, has taken advantage of this by performing in Venice several times. The Basilica di San Marco, with its numerous galleries, was renowned for its polyphonic music tailored to its design. It was almost as famous for the music played on cornets and sagbuts as it was for its status as the city's primary attraction.

This innovative ensemble will take its audience on a journey, much like in the Tudor and Stuart eras. It will begin in England, travel through various courts and cities in Lutheran Germany, and end up in Italy - specifically in the composing rooms of Giovanni Gabrieli or Gioseffo Guami. For their debut at the Innsbrucker Festwochen, the musicians will perform not in the magnificent church on St. Mark's Square but in the galleries of the Kaiserliche Hofkirche in Innsbruck.
