Stift Stams

Music plays a central role in religious services and is closely intertwined with the liturgical actions of the Holy Mass. Ideally, church music should be functional, adhering to the customary ceremonial procedures. However, it is also common practice for composers to create artistic Mass compositions, and we are excited to present two festive Masses at this year's festival.

In Innsbruck and Tyrol, music holds great importance in religious services. Professional and volunteer choirs, ensembles, and organists perform in parish churches and monasteries. Church music and music education have a long tradition, particularly in Cathedral of St. James (Dom zu St. Jakob), the Court Church (Hofkirche), the abbeys of Wilten and Stams (Stift Wilten und Stift Stams), and the Jesuit and Servite churches (Jesuiten- und Servitenkirche) in Innsbruck. The Innsbruck Festival seek to honor this tradition and offer listeners spiritual experiences in venerable places of faith.
