Claudia Isabel Martin Peragallo

She is a German stage director with Peruvian background who is interested in music theatre and performative narratives. 2024 she realized Handel’s ‘Serse’ at Staatstheater Augsburg. In 2023 she created ‘Why Chiquinha?’, the first work of her „collect:eve – Lives in Pieces“ about Brazilian 19/20th century composer Francisca Gonzaga, and ‘I am Love: Purcell’ with FILUM Ensemble for Early Music based in Hannover. In 2022 she staged a mobile Opera-Truck-Story adapting Pergolesi’s ‘La Serva Padrona’ as road opera, her second collaboration with FILUM, after their operatic puzzle in 2021 staging music from J. S. Bach’s secular cantatas in a skating hall. In Winter 2020 she explored the baroque era with an experimental work at Theater Heidelberg ‘Was frag ich nach der Welt!‘ and a contemporary Scenic quartet with music of the 20th and 21th century at Hochschule für Musik Lübeck. 2020 she presented ‘Heute Abend: Lola Blau’ at Staatsoper Hannover, where she already is known by her staging of the German language premier of Elena Kats-Chernin’s chamber opera ‘Iphis’. In 2018 she realized ‘ABGESPIELT: Woge, Du Welle!’ a late night music theatre programme in uncommon spaces which she continues in the recent season. Since 2017 she realizes the stage productions of ‘Junge Operette Frankfurt’.

In 2017 she staged Boieldieus French Opera ‘La Dame Blanche’ with Junge Oper Rhein-Main. In 2015 and 2016 she worked on her musical approach to Shakespeare’s drama with ‘Shakespeare Variations’ at the Philharmonie Essen and ‘Will Shakes’, a theatrical event about Shakespeare’s sonnets, with students of the University of Mainz. In spring 2015 she directed a staged concert of de Literes’ Zarzuela ‘Acis y Galatea’ at the SWR-Festival in Schwetzingen. Previous productions of Claudia Isabel Martin also include Benjamin Britten’s ‘The little sweep’, Telemann’s ‘Pimpinone’ and Don Quichotte’ at the Hochschule für Musik in Mainz with coproducing theatres.

Claudia Isabel Martin is a scholar of the Richard Wagner Association Wiesbaden, Akademie Musiktheater heute and Semi-Finalist of the RING AWARD 2017 in Styria. As assistant director she has worked since 2013 in different European theatres, including Aalto-Theater Essen, Opera Cologne, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Opéra national de Bordeaux, Opéra du Lorraine á Nancy, Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg, Opera Zurich and Staatsoper Hannover. Due to her international experience, she has been invited by the Universities of Cologne, Mainz and Halle to present practical perspectives on her profession.
