Roel Dieltiens is a world-renowned Belgian cellist.
From the outset of his career, his strong personality and unconventional approach have opened the doors of major international concert halls to him.
He has also made a name for himself as a chamber musician and was the founder of the Explorations Ensemble in 1996. His numerous recordings for Harmonia Mundi have won several international awards. Since 2010, he has also performed with pianist Andreas Staier and violinist Daniel Sepec.
Although he mainly devotes himself to the baroque and classical repertoire on period instruments, the modern cello plays an essential role in his artistic life.
He has successfully tackled the Romantic repertoire (including Mendelssohn, Dvorak and Rossini) and the 20th century (e.g. Kodaly and Martinu). His curiosity has led him to promote forgotten compositions (by Servais, Franchomme and others) and to flourishing collaborations with contemporary composers such as Victor Legley, William Bolcom and Luc Van Hove.
From 2002 to 2022, Roel Dieltiens was head of the cello class at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich University of the Arts).
