Croatian mezzo-soprano Lucija Varšić grew up in an artistic family.
Her passion for early music has made her a sought-after baroque singer, collaborating with renowned ensembles such as Concentus Musicus Wien, Concerto Stella Matutina, and Neue Hofkapelle Graz. She received her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance in 2022 and Historically informed Performance Practice in 2024 at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. There, she has performed roles in several opera productions, including Dorabella, Dido, and Hänsel.
Lucija is the winner of this year’s First Prize and Audience Prize at the International Handel Singing Competition, which took place in April 2025 in London. In 2024, she was awarded First Prize and the Audience Prize at the Concours international de chant baroque de Froville and received three prizes at the Internationale Gesangswettbewerb für Barockoper Pietro Antonio Cesti in Innsbruck.
She has performed at notable events, including the International Harnoncourt Festival, the International Baroque Festival Melk, and venues such as the Wiener Musikverein, Musikverein Graz and Wiener Konzerthaus. In Summer 2024, Lucija showcased her versatility as both an actress and a singer in ‘A Servant of Two Masters’ by Peter Turrini at the Schloss-Spiele Kobersdorf. Additionally, at the Vorarlberger Landestheater in Bregenz, she portrayed Anna Kennedy in Donizetti’s ‘Maria Stuarda’.
In June 2025, she will return to the Baroque Festival Melk for a solo concert featuring a French programme, take on the role of Humilità/Nobilità in Stradella’s ‘Santa Editta’ at the Festival of Opéra de Nice, and perform a solo concert at the OÖ. Stiftskonzerte.
