The Swedish tenor Martin Vanberg studied at the Opera Academy in Copenhagen.

He has appeared in opera houses and festivals such as the Royal Danish Opera, Gothenburg Opera, Malmö Opera, Drottningholm Opera Festival, Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, Handel Festival Halle, Musikfestspiele Potsdam, Festival d’Opéra Baroque de Beaune, Festival d’Ambronay, Misteria Paschalia Festival in Krakow, Actus Humanus Festival in Gdansk, Nordic Opera, Ripasso Baroque Festival, Stockholm Early Music Festival and the Vadstena Festival, just to mention a few.

Martin Vanberg’s roles include the title role in Handel’s ‘Jeptha’, Oronte in Handel’s ‘Alcina’, Lurcanio in Handel’s ‘Ariodante’, Jonathan in Handel’s ‘Saul’, Tamino in ‘Die Zauberflöte’, Arbace in ‘Idomeneo’, Don Ottavio in ‘Don Giovanni’, Male Chorus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Lysander in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Peter Quint in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, Le Chevalier in ‘Les dialogues des carmélites’, Count Almaviva in ‘Il barbiere di Siviglia’, the title role in ‘Orphée aux enfers’, Nutrice, Lucano, Soldato 1 and Famigliare 2 in ‘L’incoronazione di Poppea’, L’Humana fragilità, Pisandro and Eumete in ‘Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria’, Cephalus in Cavalli’s ‘Gli amori d’Apollo e di Dafne’, Gomatz in Mozart’s ‘Zaide’, Cecco and Ecclittico in Haydn’s ‘Il mondo della luna’, Valère and Damon in Rameau’s ‘Les Indes galantes’, the title role in ‘Dardanus’, Capellio in Vaccai’s ‘Giulietta e Romeo’.

He has participated in a number of contemporary operas and concert pieces such as The therapist in Hugi Gudmundsson’s ‘Hamlet in Absentia’, Christer in ‘Tonight, Tonight’, The Theatre Painter in David Sandström’s ‘The Rococo Machinery’, Mr. Wickham in Daniel Nelson’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’, Ilgoplur in Christoffer Nobin’s ‘Hion om notten’, Elis in Nikolo Kotzav’s ‘Joel’, Daniel Hjort’s ‘Det dybeste sted’ and he has recorded Thomas Jennefelt’s ‘Dixit Dominus’.

As a concert singer Vanberg frequently appears in many of Europe’s leading concert halls, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Wien, Kölner Philharmonie, Gothenburg, Malmö and Stockholm Concert Halls and the Tivoli Concert Hall in Copenhagen.

His repertoire includes works by Bach, Britten, Dowland, Handel, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Monteverdi, Mozart, Porpora, Purcell, Rameau, Vivaldi, just to mention a few.

Martin Vanberg regularly works with conductors such as Steuart Bedford, Alfredo Bernardini, Fabio Biondi, Francesco Corti, Laurence Cummings, Ottavio Dantone, Thomas Dausgaard, Michael Francis, Ruben Jais, Stephen Layton, Fredrik Malmberg, Andrew Manze, Ville Matvejeff, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Riccardo Minasi, Thibault Noally, Ian Page, Simon Phipps, Helmut Rilling, Morten Schuldt Jensen, Claudio Scimone, Marc Soustrot, Peter Spissky, David Stern, Alessandro Tampieri, Massimiliano Toni and Maciej Wieloch.

Recent engagements include Destino in Conti’s ‘Il trionfo della Fama’ at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, the title role in Rameau’s ‘Dardanus’ at Confidencen Opera and Music Festival Stockholm, Capellio in Vaccai’s ‘Giullietta e Romeo’ at Den Fynske Opera, Valère and Damon in Rameau’s ‘Les Indes galantes’ in Aarhus and in Copenhagen, Haydn’s ‘Die Schöpfung’ in Ravenna with Accademia Bizantina, Eumete in Monteverdi’s ‘Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria’ in Hamburg Elbphilharmonie conducted by Fabio Biondi, Tempo in Handel’s ‘Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno’ in Halle, Gdansk and Oslo with Accademia Bizantina, Handel’s ‘Ode for St. Cecilia’ Day’ in Milan with Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, Handel’s ‘Israel in Egypt’ with Accademia Bizantina, Handel’s ‘Messiah’ in Poznan with Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2 ‘Lobgesang’ with Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Bach’s ‘St John Passion’ in Copenhagen, ‘St Matthew Passion’ in Stockholm (broadcast by Swedish Television) as well as in Copenhagen Dome, Holmen’s church Copenhagen and Aarhus Concert Hall, Bach’s ‘Christmas Oratorio’ in Stockholm Concert Hall and Handel’s ‘Chandos Anthems’ at the Drottningholm Festival under the baton of Francesco Corti.
