Suzanne Jerosme

Suzanne Jerosme (c) Claudia Link

After studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and the Cologne University of Music and Dance, soprano Suzanne Jerosme was immediately hired by Theater Aachen, where she remained a permanent member of the ensemble until the 2023/24 season.

Suzanne has explored a wide repertoire and interpreted various roles, including Poppea in ‘L’Incoronazione di Poppea’, Blanche de la Force in ‘Dialogues des Carmélites’, Zerlina in ‘Don Giovanni’, Maria in ‘West Side Story’, Lauretta in ‘Gianni Schicchi’ and Despina in ‘Così fan tutte’. She has also portrayed Bellezza in Handel’s ‘Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno’, the title role in Cavalli’s ‘La Calisto’ and Helena in Britten’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. In her last two seasons in Aachen, she played major roles such as Manon in Massenet’s opera of the same name, Mimì in ‘La Bohème’, Susanna in ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’ and the Contessa di Folleville in ‘Il viaggio a Reims’.

Parallel to her engagement in Aachen, Suzanne participated in several international competitions and festivals. As a finalist in the Pietro Antonio Cesti International Baroque Opera Singing Competition, she was invited by the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music to take on the title role in Reinhard Keiser’s ‘Octavia’.

She made celebrated debuts at several renowned opera houses: After appearing as the First Lady in the French version of Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’, conducted by Hervé Niquet at the Opéra d’Avignon and the Opéra Royal de Versailles, she made her debut at the Opéra National de Lorraine as Morgana in Handel’s ‘Alcina’, staged by Serena Sinigaglia and conducted by Leonardo García Alarcón. She also played Amore and Valletto in ‘L’Incoronazione di Poppea’ with the Ensemble Matheus, conducted by Jean-Christophe Spinosi.

At the beginning of the 2020/21 season, Suzanne made a remarkable debut at the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival as Giuditta in Porpora’s ‘Carlo il Calvo’, staged by Max Emanuel Cenčić and conducted by George Petrou. This production was subsequently revived in several renowned concert halls, including the Theater an der Wien, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and La Scala in Milan.

In addition to her stage appearances, Suzanne has recorded the title role in ‘Cleofida, Queen of India’ (Handel/Telemann) under the direction of Jörg Halubek with the ensemble Il Gusto Barocco. She also sang Ismene in Joseph Aloys Schmittbaur’s ‘Lindor und Ismene’ in Cologne with Werner Ehrhardt and Arte del Mondo and took part in a tour of Purcell’s Odes with Damien Guillon and Le Banquet Céleste, performing at venues including the Salle Gaveau in Paris, Nice, Rennes and Poitiers. She returned to the Theater an der Wien to take on the roles of Sestia in Hasse’s ‘Cajo Fabricio’ and Lucinda in Caldara’s ‘Il Venceslao’ under the baton of Martyna Pastuszka.

As a soloist, Suzanne has distinguished herself in several major concert works. She performed Mozart’s ‘Coronation Mass’ and ‘Vesperae solennes de confessore’ with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Patrick Marco at the Annecy Classic Festival. Her other engagements include Mahler’s ‘Resurrection Symphony’, Mozart’s ‘Great Mass in C minor’ and ‘Exsultate, jubilate’, Brahms’ ‘A German Requiem’, Poulenc’s “Gloria”, Beethoven’s ‘9th Symphony’ and the role of Angelo in Handel’s ‘La Resurrezione’. She has also given recitals focusing on Mozart and Handel in Avignon and Paris with Julien Chauvin.

At the Klangvokal Music Festival in Dortmund, Suzanne appeared as Sophie in Massenet’s Werther with the WDR Funkhausorchester conducted by Giacomo Sagripanti, as an angel in the same composer’s La Vierge, and in a concert dedicated to Porpora conducted by Ottavio Dantone with the Accademia Bizantina. She recently gave Baroque recitals with Jörg Halubek and Benjamin Bayl and interpreted Agilea in Handel’s ‘Teseo’ at the Handel Festival in Halle and in Wrocław. She also sang the title role in Traetta’s ‘Rex Salomon’ at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music under the baton of Christophe Rousset.

In the 2024/25 season, Suzanne will sing the role of Angelo in ‘La Resurrezione’ at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris with Le Concert de La Loge, Zelmira in ‘Armida’ at the Hans Otto Theater with the Kammerakademie Potsdam, the First Lady in ‘Die Zauberflöte’ at the Opera royal de Versailles with Le Concert Spirituel, and Mimi in ‘La Bohème’ at the Theater Aachen. At the Innsbruck Festival in the summer of 2025, Suzanne will embody the role of Pilade in Traetta’s ‘Ifigenia in Tauride’ under Christophe Rousset. In February, she made a spectacular role debut at the 2025 International Handel Festival at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, singing the role of Almirena in a new production of Handel’s ‘Rinaldo’ under Rinaldo Alessandrini.
