Žiga Čopi is a Slovenian tenor gaining recognition for his beautiful timbre and vocal expressiveness. In the 2023/24 season, he made several high-profile debuts, including Eurimaco in Monteverdi’s ‘Il ritorno d’Ulisse’ in patria, the Spirit in Purcell’s ‘Dido and Aeneas’ at the Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna, working with the acclaimed Accademia Bizantina, Ottavio Dantone, and Pier Luigi Pizzi and concert repertoire debut as San Giovanni in Handel’s ‘La Resurrezione’ in Finland.
His upcoming engagements include the debut at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music performing Scarlatti with Accademia Bizantina under Ottavio Dantone, Mendelssohn’s ‘Lobgesang’ Italy Tour with Accademia Hermans and Fabio Ciofini, and Bach’s ‘St John Passion’. He will also appear in a concert of Mozart arias with Kymi Sinfonietta in Finland, conducted by Topi Lehtipuu.
Žiga completed his vocal studies under Professor Edita Garčević Koželj at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and is currently part of the Firenze ‘Mascarade Opera’s Talent Pathway’ program for the 2024/25 season.
He was awarded First Prize at several international competitions, including recently the 51st TEMSIG Competition of Young Musicians of the Republic of Slovenia, the Split International Competition ‘Daleki akordi’ (2024), and SPEVslam (2024). His achievements earned him the prestigious Škerjanec Prize (2023).
As a composer, Žiga’s works have been performed in Germany, Austria, Italy, and Slovenia by renowned ensembles such as Airborne Extended and Ensemble Modern. He is currently completing his composition studies with Professor Vito Žuraj at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana.
Žiga’s artistry has been shaped by collaborations with esteemed mentors, including Topi Lehtipuu, Delphine Galou, James Platt, Izabela Kłosińska, Hermine Haselböck, Katherine Haataja, Snežana Stamenković, Dearbhla Collins... He remains actively involved with the ENOA network and continues to collaborate with the Operosa Opera Festival.
