They have been dancing for 500 years on the magnificent oriel of the Golden Roof in Innsbruck: the moresca dancers, decorated with banderoles displaying indecipherable characters that seem oriental in nature, reflect courtly life at that time. The «moresca» first spread from Spain via Italy to many European regions as a grotesque dance and was a very popular courtly dance during the Renaissance. Ensemble Daedalus immerses itself in the wondrous world of the «moresca» in the Spanish Hall at Ambras Castle. The singers and musicians devote themselves to the Moorish origins of dance music in Spain, its dissemination in the Spanish Viceroyalty of Naples and artful compositions by the Munich Hofkapellmeister Orlando di Lasso and the Bolognese composer Adriano Banchieri.

Ensemble Daedalus will make the music of past centuries come alive again, unfolding the whole range of dance music «a la moresca»: crazy carnival songs, rapt madrigals, love songs, Neapolitan canzonas, Spanish canciones, poetic verses, dramatic scenes, songs of innocence and first love, of demonic powers and heavenly forces invoked to guard against them. In the past, the dancing of morescas was only sanctioned during the carnival season.
